Version 13 of the Altis digital experience platform has landed, introducing some core software updates and user enablement.
PHP version 8.1 support
Altis v13 fully supports PHP version 8.1 in both local and cloud environments. New features of PHP 8.1 include enums, readonly properties, first-class callable syntax, fibers, intersection types, performance improvements and more.
Please note that support for PHP versions earlier than 8.0 is no longer available in Altis v13. With end-of-life for PHP 7.4 also fast approaching, you’ll want to make sure you update your version of Altis soon. See Updating PHP Version in the Altis documentation for further guidance.
Built on WordPress 6.0
WordPress 6.0 was a major release for the world’s most popular CMS, made available in May 2022. The inclusion of WordPress 6.0 as the foundation of Altis DXP v13 brings a bunch of performance improvements to the block editor, taxonomies, and the cache API (amongst many others) to the platform as well as the CMS itself.
The WordPress 6.0 Field Guide is a great place to learn about what’s new. Here are some of the highlights:
- Improved block locking
- Enhanced template block customization
- Full CRUD options for batch API cache operations
- Storage of file size in Media Metadata
- Taxonomy performance improvements
- Support for the creation of multiple theme.json variations
The WordPress minor releases 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 are also part of the Altis v13 update.
New User Guide
We have released the first version of user-oriented documentation for Altis! Less technical than the developer documentation, these articles are geared towards helping content and editorial teams with the ins and outs of features like content collaboration, experimentation, personalization, intelligent media management and more.
There are almost 30 articles to get you started, and we will be improving the ones we have as well as adding more over time. The user documentation will also be available under Documentation > User Guides on your site’s Dashboard.
